Dausteg invites audience to dress up as animals.

It’s been announced that on 19th February rock improvisation masters Supersilent will perform in Riga and after them innovatory DJ duo Dausteg will take the stage to play experimental dance music. Dausteg is collaboration between British-Jamaican DJ Tony Wilson and Norwegian musician and visual artist Are Mokkelbost, known with his solo project Single Unit and as a member of the band Killl, who unites Norwegian experimental music’s prominences, including members of the band Jaga Jazzist, which recently released their new album. Both Single Unit and Killl have already made a unique impression with their musically and visually tumultuous and dynamic shows in the Sound Forest festival performances.

Every Dausteg performance is themed. Riga set’s theme is Animism and Artificial Intelligence and dance as a ritual; accordingly, DJs invite audience not to leave their inner animal outside the door when entering the venue. To get approximate idea about the feeling of the evening DJ suggest to watch the introduction of Stanley Cubric’s movie «2001: Space Odyssey» http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ML1OZCHixR0. Those who will make an effort and come dressed in animal costumes (not only masks and face paint), will get cheaper ticket at the entrance, for the concert and DJ set – 6 Ls.

Dausteg in Old Norwegian means „death step”, which can be considered as interpretation about dance music genre dub step; the difference is that in death step rhythm background is metallic and more avant-garde tunes. Dausteg presented themselves last year at the Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival. Collaboration was created combining DJ and ex-raver Wilson’s interest in Norwegian black metal and Single Unit’s talent to perform unique mix of such music genres as black metal, early electronic music, hip-hop, contemporary music and improvisation jazz. Dausteg accomplished that people dance to avant-garde compositions. «When we played at Club Øya (Øya festival club nights) last year, people danced to (modern composers) Giacinto Scelsi, Morton Feldman and Gyorgy Ligeti! It is interesting to watch when classic avant-garde is brought down to the functional and pragmatical level of the dance floor, » says Single Unit.
For their part, Supersilent, after which Dausteg will perform, is the flagship band of Rune Grammofon; exactly with Supersilent this label started expansion of the Norwegian experimental music in the wide world.
