PLANNINGTOROCK will perform in Riga on March 19th

On March 19th presenting the forthcoming albums Janine Rostron aka Planningtorock will perform at Spīķeru Koncertzāle. Planningtorock is one of these days’ most unique musicians, in her explosive performances – pop-operas video projections play together with extraordinary dressed and slightly husky singing and dancing artist on the stage. This winter is a harvest time for Planningtorock – in two oncoming albums materializes her solo work and collaboration with the duo The Knife.

In her music this classically trained violinist freely mixes glam rock, hip-hop, classical music and electronic. Planningtorock’s eccentric creative instincts were spotted in 2006 by electroclash record label Chicks on Speed Records, which released her highly apprised debut album “Have It All”. To describe the range of this album TANK magazine wrote – “Part Jarvis Cocker, part Wendy Carlos, its an arresting outsider spectacle. (..) Have it All.. is a raunchy synthesis of Bowie, Bolan and Joplin”. In the spring of 2006 after the release of her debut album Planningtorock came to Sound Forest festival. Since then her recognition has grown and she has worked together with such musicians as LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip, Peaches and The Knife. As visual artist Planningtorock has exhibited in galleries as MAMA (Rotterdam) and Tate Modern (London). This summer her new album Planet 9 will be released on record label DFA Records, which is managed by James Murphy, who is know as member of the project LCD Soundsystem. Performance in Riga will take place before scheduled Planningtorock European tour in spring and will be one of the first concerts to hear her new repertoire. We remind that last autumn other musicians– duo YΔCHT, from DFA Records performed at Spīķeru Koncertzāle.

In addition on March 1st album “Tomorrow in a Year” will be released, thus materializing two year collaboration of Planningtorock with the duo The Knife creating together electo-opera about Charles Darwin.

On March 19th in Riga we can expect from Planningtorock a spectacle in a caricaturized futurism manner, where romance and satire are mixed with exhibitionistic sensuality.
