During the end of 2016 and most of 2017 Skaņu Mežs Festival for adventurous music and art organized a concert series called ”Nordic Women in Experimental Music” with an aim to highlight cutting edge female musicians from Scandinavia both through interviews and performances. The field of experimental music is generally male dominated, while on the contrary Denmark, Norway, Sweden & Finland stands apart with a rich presence of women in experimental music of diverse kinds.
The interviews of the project have served as an additional ground for the festival’s explorations, with the topics having to do both with the project’s central theme and the creative process of participating musicians. They have all been produced in collaboration with – and broadcast by – Radio NABA a.k.a. Latvian Radio 6.
Listen to interviews with Simone Oster, Emma Blake and Sara Svanholm from Copenhagen based DJ trio Apeiron Crew, Finnish film music composer & psychedelic folk singer Laura Naukkarinen aka Lau Nau, and Norway-based electro-acoustic music composer Natasha Barrett.
The concert series is supported by Kulturkontakt Nord and Latvian State Culture Capital Foundation.
Apeiron Crew also represent the SHAPE platform for innovative music and audiovisual art, supported by the “Creative Europe” programme of the European Union.
