Puce Mary is the solo moniker of Copenhagen based sound artist Frederikke Hoffmeier. Since her first LP released in 2013, the project has then explored the fields of industrial noise and experimental music with a vast amount of releases on labels as Posh Isolation, iDEAL Recordings, Ascetic House and Freak Animal featuring collaborations with noise artists such as Loke Rahbek, Dan Johansson of Sewer Election and Rodger Stella of Macronympha. Her current other projects are JH1.FS3 and Body Sculptures. The performances and releases portrays her work methods to be many and diverse from textured sound collages and noise, to straight forward industrial music. She has performed throughout Europe, Japan, Russia, Canada and America. Puce Mary’s album The Spiral was named as one of the 50 best records of 2016 by The Wire.
Somewhere along the intersection between electronic music and sound art, SØS Gunver Ryberg‘s characteristic style is recognised for it’s insistent rhythms, combined with a meticulous exploration of textures and timbres, raw sounds are framed by symphonic forms to create a unique expressivity. SØS Gunver Ryberg’s performance and production history is rich, long and bewildering: modern compositions, multichannel recordings, installation and exhibition works, dance/performance art, commissioned productions, audio walks and, of course, regular live music performances. Coming from an academic background of modern composition and sound art in Denmark, SØS is one of a kind, delivering sonic assault beyond what you’d regularly expect from an artist of these merits. Trust us on our words – for rhythmic annihilation, look no further.
This Skaņu Mežs event is part of a concert series called “Nordic Women in Experimental Music” , organized in cooperation with Kulturkontakt Nord and Latvian State Culture Capital Foundation. The aim of the series is to highlight the wealth of female talent coming from this region, since the experimental music scene in a wider sense is male-dominated.
