IDA Sound Residency 2021

IDA Radio is happy to announce the open call for a sound residency for musicians, music producers and sound artists coming from the Baltic States and Nordic countries in collaboration with festivals Skaņu Mežs and Intonal. The residency will take place in different parts of Estonia in autumn 2021.

Four artists will be selected who will work together for two months in September & October 2021. There are no restrictions or obligations, but we expect the artists to share their process and possible outcome at the end of the residency – a new piece of music, performance or something completely different in the field of sound-art. That said, we will provide an inspiring program for the residents throughout their stay. We encourage professionals as well as emerging sound artists to apply.

The first two weeks of the residency program will be covered by a number of workshops hosted by local & international artists, followed by a two week mini-residency at project space MAAJAAM in an old farm in Estonian countryside. The fifth week will be free and the residents will meet again on week six for a week-long “top secret project” in Tartu. The last two weeks will be spent in a recording studio in Tallinn.

IDA is partnering up with two festivals – Intonal in Malmö & Skaņu Mežs in Riga. The four residents will perform their outcome at named festivals in 2022.

Studio, recording & workshops

A studio space with basic equipment will be covered by the organisers and a professional sound engineer will be available for recording sessions. There will be several workshops lead by different artists during the residency, each focusing on a particular instrument or technique.

Transport, accommodation & catering

International and local transport and accommodation for the residency period will be covered by the organisers. Each resident will receive a 1500€ grant, food will be covered most of the time. The free week shall be covered by artists themselves. Special dinners and excursions will be organised.

MAAJAAM

MAAJAAM is a farm for art and tech situated in South of Estonia. It is is concentrated on researching of, experimenting with and reflecting on the relationships between people, technology and nature. Substituting the urban environment with a hilly rural landscape allows us to observe technology in it’s pure form. Mixing the past technological wonders of the historical farm with present day hi-tech offers us a shift in perspective. This perspective is projected through the prism of art. MAAJAAM is operated by artists Timo Toots and Mari-Liis Rebane.
