TAK Ensemble: Collaboration in Practice

October 2, 10:00,  Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, New Chamber Hall

In this masterclass, Laura Cocks and clarinetist Madison Greenstone will share the TAK Ensemble's 13 years of experience, discussing collaboration as a core principle of the ensemble's work — with composers, with each other, with other artists, and with the broader community as creators of educational and performance festivals. They will conclude by offering insight into their creative process behind the piece interbeing, which they will perform later that evening, and may invite audience participation.

Laura Cocks is an American flautist, experimental music performer, and improviser, serving as executive producer of the TAK Ensemble. She has performed with the International Contemporary Ensemble, Sun Ra Arkestra, London Sinfonietta, and others. In 2023, Musical America named her one of the 40 best music professionals in the United States. Madison Greenstone is an American clarinetist and member of the TAK Ensemble, known for her extensive repertoire in new music and improvisation. Both artists have led masterclasses and seminars at leading institutions such as Oberlin Conservatory, California Institute of the Arts, Columbia University, and the University of Pennsylvania.

This event is supported by the State Culture Capital Foundation of Latvia, Riga municipality, Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music and Trust for Mutual Understanding.
